Cheap Wordpress Hosting Packages

If you are a newbie, or you don’t want to spend more than 10 seconds on installing Wordpress on your web host, than you need a “Wordpress friendly” hosting package. :) What does it mean? You need a web host that has Fantastico installed on it’s servers. What is Fantastico? It’s an online application installer, and with the help of this script library it takes only 10 seconds to install Wordpress on your web host. Fantastico is fantastic, and it’s useful for everybody -not just for bloggers-, that’s why I created a list of the biggest hosting companies that useFantastico on their servers. Here is the list:

Hostgator

Hostgator Cheap Wordpress Hosting

If you use the coupon code wordpress than the cost of the first month’s hosting is only 1 cent. Although I haven’t tried Hostgator’s hosting service, my friends love the “Baby” package which costs $7.95/month. If I wasn’t satisfied with Hostican’s service, I’d try this offer.

Hostican

This blog is hosted at Hostican, and I like their service. You can read the Hostican shared hosting review here.

Lunarpages

Lunarpages answers the phone when you call them!

I’ve read positive reviews about their hosting service, but I haven’t tried it yet.

I haven’t reviewed or tried the services of the following companies, the only reason I included them in the list is that they have Fantastico installed on their servers.

The Godfather

I’ll share my biggest secret with you… I love The Godfather trilogy. And I’m not the only one who loves The Godfather movie trilogy. According to IMDB it’s the best movie of all time! So what did this movie (that was created in 1972, when there was no internet, no web hosting service, no Myspace or Digg) teach me about web hosting? It taught me four important things:

1. Trust

If you can’t trust your business partner, than your business won’t work.

What does it mean? If you can’t trust in the hosting company that hosts your money making websites, because you think it’s not a reliable company, and the only reason you stay with them is the fact that their hosting service is cheap, than you should move your sites to another web host.

2. Loyalty & Betrayal

If a mobster is not loyal to his “family”, because he doesn’t agree with the decisions of the Godfather, than he’ll end up in a body bag.

If your web hoster doesn’t provide what it has promised you before, then move your sites to another company without any hesitation. You know, it’s all about making money, and moving your sites to another company is not an emotional but a financial decision. In this case, the hosting company is the betrayer and not you.

3. Solving problems

If a mobster has a problem with somebody, he can either talk to him, or kill him -ooor kill him and talk to him after that-.

It’s free to ask help from the support of a hosting company, so feel free to ask. You’re the customer and they’re the seller, it’s their obligation to help you. If they don’t help you, than read ‘lesson no. 4′.

4. The head of a horse on the bed

In the movie, a producer doesn’t want to do what the Godfather tells him to do, so one day he wakes up, and he finds the head of his dead horse on his bed right in front of him.

I love animals, so I wouldn’t suggest you to kill a horse and put it’s head on the bed of a CEO. Instead you can write a nice, detailed article about your problems with XY hosting company, and you can post it on a forum like Webhostingtalk.com. Maybe an employee of XY company will read your article and he/she will try to solve your problem, or you’ll find another, reliable hosting company.

I hope you found this post useful, and if you haven’t seen The Godfather yet, than I suggest you to buy it on DVD.

First I wanted to write an average review about Godaddy’s hosting service, but after I read some (over 40 different reviews on different forums) reviews about it, I changed my mind. Why would I review a service that sucks? And the really sad part of my research was that I didn’t find positive reviews about their hosting service -except the ones that are stuffed with affiliate links-.

Some reviews about it from Webhostingtalk.com:

Imho this one was pretty funny. :)

PLEASE stay away from godaddy. Not just for support but overall performance AND service. If you lookup WORST HOST in a dictionary you would have an entry for GODADDY.

These technical issues sound interesting.

I hosted with GoDaddy for 2 years. My web site was NEVER down…ever. However they did move me twice and not tell me, so stuff broke. Their help desk fixed it all IMMEDIATLY however. I am leaving them however and cannot recommend them to anyone for a few more technical reasons. 1 - their Control Panel SUCKS *** and has NO features whatsover. 2 - for the aforementioned reason and many others - everything is locked down and beyond manual work arounds for stuff lik PHP control, htaccess etc. 3 - SLOW FTP and a total lack of all other file management/SSH etc. 4 - their price is NOT competitive any more. USED to be, but now I can save a couple bucks a month by going to someone else and getting WAY more stuff/service for it. 5. They keep bumping up space/bandwidth to try and stay competitive, but they have again failed.

So that’s that. If you’re REALLY lazy and simply like having the same company do your Domain and Hosting…then Host Daddy is for you. Otherwise, register with them because they are cheap and they DO give you free, ad-supported hosting with the Domain (which is pretty freaking awesome) but GO SOMEWHERE ELSE for hosting. There’s not a single reason I can give you to host with them. by libster

Godaddy isnt really what you think is best. I have been with them for about 1 year. Their Control panel is not what you think would be. The domain manager is also hard to work with. Overall their prices are cheap but their services arent the best. by InlineFrame

Another interesting story from a user of Godaddy’s hosting service.

If these stories were not enough, you can read some more reviews written by other satisfied customers, just click here.

Is there any AOW reader who has used Godaddy’s hosting service before?

Although I planned to write about web hosting today (Geez, a blogger who writes about web hosting related things on a blog named “Art of webhosting”?) , I changed my mind so I’m going to talk about some blog related stuff.

Traffic

The blog is only 5 days old, but according to Awstats there were already 1200 visitors on this blog. I have to admit, most of these visitors came from StumbleUpon, to read the “10 ways to make a tech support guy cry” post.

Awstats

It’s cool, I didn’t expect so many visitors. :) I also didn’t expect any traffic from Entrecard, but they’ve already sent me over 200 visitors:

Entrecard

Design

I was working on the new theme of this blog all day, so I’m pretty tired now. Why do I want to use a unique theme on this blog? Because I want to create a brand, and it’s hard to create one if you use a theme like this on your blog. This theme can be seen on at least a 100 Wordpress blogs… anyway, I hope I’m going to finish the design soon and than I’m going to hire somebody to code this theme.

Goals for the next 30 days

  • at least 100 subscribers to the RSS feed
  • 200-300 unique visitor/day

I hope I’m going to reach my goals, and maybe one day this blog will be on a list like the one Jason created recently. :)

I collected these ads because I wanted to show you, that designers at hosting companies can create really cool, and ugly banners too. The problem is that many of the webmasters are lazy, and they think it doesn’t matter which banner they put on their site because: “The reliability of a hosting company is more important, than the design of their ads”. That’s true, but if a hosting company offers only ugly banners to it’s affiliates, and the affiliates use these banners on their websites, than the visitors won’t click on these banners. So they’re not going to know anything about the reliability of that hosting company. Anyway, here are the banners:
