Cheap Wordpress Hosting Packages

If you are a newbie, or you don’t want to spend more than 10 seconds on installing Wordpress on your web host, than you need a “Wordpress friendly” hosting package. :) What does it mean? You need a web host that has Fantastico installed on it’s servers. What is Fantastico? It’s an online application installer, and with the help of this script library it takes only 10 seconds to install Wordpress on your web host. Fantastico is fantastic, and it’s useful for everybody -not just for bloggers-, that’s why I created a list of the biggest hosting companies that useFantastico on their servers. Here is the list:

Hostgator

Hostgator Cheap Wordpress Hosting

If you use the coupon code wordpress than the cost of the first month’s hosting is only 1 cent. Although I haven’t tried Hostgator’s hosting service, my friends love the “Baby” package which costs $7.95/month. If I wasn’t satisfied with Hostican’s service, I’d try this offer.

Hostican

This blog is hosted at Hostican, and I like their service. You can read the Hostican shared hosting review here.

Lunarpages

Lunarpages answers the phone when you call them!

I’ve read positive reviews about their hosting service, but I haven’t tried it yet.

I haven’t reviewed or tried the services of the following companies, the only reason I included them in the list is that they have Fantastico installed on their servers.

First I wanted to write an average review about Godaddy’s hosting service, but after I read some (over 40 different reviews on different forums) reviews about it, I changed my mind. Why would I review a service that sucks? And the really sad part of my research was that I didn’t find positive reviews about their hosting service -except the ones that are stuffed with affiliate links-.

Some reviews about it from Webhostingtalk.com:

Imho this one was pretty funny. :)

PLEASE stay away from godaddy. Not just for support but overall performance AND service. If you lookup WORST HOST in a dictionary you would have an entry for GODADDY.

These technical issues sound interesting.

I hosted with GoDaddy for 2 years. My web site was NEVER down…ever. However they did move me twice and not tell me, so stuff broke. Their help desk fixed it all IMMEDIATLY however. I am leaving them however and cannot recommend them to anyone for a few more technical reasons. 1 - their Control Panel SUCKS *** and has NO features whatsover. 2 - for the aforementioned reason and many others - everything is locked down and beyond manual work arounds for stuff lik PHP control, htaccess etc. 3 - SLOW FTP and a total lack of all other file management/SSH etc. 4 - their price is NOT competitive any more. USED to be, but now I can save a couple bucks a month by going to someone else and getting WAY more stuff/service for it. 5. They keep bumping up space/bandwidth to try and stay competitive, but they have again failed.

So that’s that. If you’re REALLY lazy and simply like having the same company do your Domain and Hosting…then Host Daddy is for you. Otherwise, register with them because they are cheap and they DO give you free, ad-supported hosting with the Domain (which is pretty freaking awesome) but GO SOMEWHERE ELSE for hosting. There’s not a single reason I can give you to host with them. by libster

Godaddy isnt really what you think is best. I have been with them for about 1 year. Their Control panel is not what you think would be. The domain manager is also hard to work with. Overall their prices are cheap but their services arent the best. by InlineFrame

Another interesting story from a user of Godaddy’s hosting service.

If these stories were not enough, you can read some more reviews written by other satisfied customers, just click here.

Is there any AOW reader who has used Godaddy’s hosting service before?

My experiences

Hostican

As you may read in the comment section of the previous post, this blog is hosted at Hostican (on a shared hosting server). I pay annually for the Tera-Host package which costs $11.95/month (of course it costs 15% less if you use a Hostican discount code like luckyyou-12 ). The price is a little bit high considering it’s just a shared hosting package, but to tell the truth Hostican’s service is great…at least that’s what I was thinking until I found out that their server didn’t like my attempt to run proxy sites on it. :D Yep, I know it was a stupid idea to host proxy sites on a shared hosting account, but I wanted to try it. And it didn’t work, because it used too much resources. So they suspended my hosting account, and I had to change a hosting plan, and that’s when I said: Alright, let’s try the VPS Rage package. That was a good choice, finally there were no problems with the hosting, but I wanted to separate my proxy sites from my other websites, so I decided to move them to another hosting company. And I moved my proxy sites to Tech Entrance, because they have proxy hosting plans for the lazy proxy owners. :) After I chose another home for some of my websites I changed back the hosting package from VPS Rage to Tera-Host. I really like Tera-Host package because it takes 15 seconds to install a Wordpress blog, and with cPanel it’s really easy to create new email accounts. The support at Hostican is great (it’s much better than at Dot5hosting…but that’s another story), they are really helpful and they respond right after you asked for help.

Why does Hostican’s service rock?

Yesterday I was checking out some threads on Webhostingtalk.com, and I bumped into this thread. According to the original poster, some scumbag (probably the owner of ResellerUnlimitedHosting.com, henceforth referred to as RUH) copied the design of Downtownhost.com which is a reliable web hosting company.

Here are two screenshots about the too sites:

The original website: Downtownhost.com The copycat: Resellerunlimitedhosting.com

Reseller Unlimited Hosting website screenshot

Some of the members of Webhostingtalk forum thought that it’s interesting that a ‘company’ steals the design of another company, and that’s why they contacted RUH via live chat, to ask what the hell is ResellerUnlimitedHosting.com doing, why did RUH steal the design of another hosting company’s website etc. As you can read in the chat logs, the support guy at RUH stated that they are the child company of Downtown host. Don’t worry, the story gets better… why? Because the owner (his nickname is: Jedito) of Downtown host is a (respected) member of the WHT community and the other members of WHT sent him a pm about this copyright infringement. After that Jedito sent a DMCA letter to RUH, and now he is waiting for a response (I doubt that RUH will respond to that letter…).

Here is the log of the chat between Jedito (in this conversation: ‘you’) and the support guy at RUH (Kevin):

you: Hi
you: when do you plan to remove the current design?
you: my name is Jorge Catena, and I own DowntownHost LLC
Kevin: remove what?
you: I prefer to not send DCMA letter to Gnax, but not answering my email you’re forcing me to do it
you: remove the design, it’s ripped off from our
Kevin: what are you talking about?
you: downtownhost.com
you: rings you a bell?
Kevin: oh you stolen our design man
you: are you stupid?
you: or pretending to be?
Kevin: pls remove it…other wise ill take legal action against you…
you: do you really want to have legal issues?
you: Ok, I see, you’re an idiot
you: I’m sending at this moment a DCMA letter to Gnax
Kevin: ill send letter to DCMA
you: to DCMA? you don’t even know what’s that
you: what a waste of time
Kevin: stop ********..ill definitly take an actions against you

As you can see Kevin the RUH support guy was so stupid that he didn’t even know what DMCA is… (I know…Jedito was the one who mispelled it twice, but this guy at RUH was so stupid, that he just copied and pasted the mispelled word). The fun part of this chat is that Jedito (you know, the owner of Downtownhost.com) got threatened with a DMCA counterclaim. :D It’s ridiculous that a scumbag can steal and lie without any consequences. I hope Jedito will ‘win this war’.
