First I wanted to write an average review about Godaddy’s hosting service, but after I read some (over 40 different reviews on different forums) reviews about it, I changed my mind. Why would I review a service that sucks? And the really sad part of my research was that I didn’t find positive reviews about their hosting service -except the ones that are stuffed with affiliate links-.

Some reviews about it from Webhostingtalk.com:

Imho this one was pretty funny. :)

PLEASE stay away from godaddy. Not just for support but overall performance AND service. If you lookup WORST HOST in a dictionary you would have an entry for GODADDY.

These technical issues sound interesting.

I hosted with GoDaddy for 2 years. My web site was NEVER down…ever. However they did move me twice and not tell me, so stuff broke. Their help desk fixed it all IMMEDIATLY however. I am leaving them however and cannot recommend them to anyone for a few more technical reasons. 1 - their Control Panel SUCKS *** and has NO features whatsover. 2 - for the aforementioned reason and many others - everything is locked down and beyond manual work arounds for stuff lik PHP control, htaccess etc. 3 - SLOW FTP and a total lack of all other file management/SSH etc. 4 - their price is NOT competitive any more. USED to be, but now I can save a couple bucks a month by going to someone else and getting WAY more stuff/service for it. 5. They keep bumping up space/bandwidth to try and stay competitive, but they have again failed.

So that’s that. If you’re REALLY lazy and simply like having the same company do your Domain and Hosting…then Host Daddy is for you. Otherwise, register with them because they are cheap and they DO give you free, ad-supported hosting with the Domain (which is pretty freaking awesome) but GO SOMEWHERE ELSE for hosting. There’s not a single reason I can give you to host with them. by libster

Godaddy isnt really what you think is best. I have been with them for about 1 year. Their Control panel is not what you think would be. The domain manager is also hard to work with. Overall their prices are cheap but their services arent the best. by InlineFrame

Another interesting story from a user of Godaddy’s hosting service.

If these stories were not enough, you can read some more reviews written by other satisfied customers, just click here.

Is there any AOW reader who has used Godaddy’s hosting service before?

My experiences

Hostican

As you may read in the comment section of the previous post, this blog is hosted at Hostican (on a shared hosting server). I pay annually for the Tera-Host package which costs $11.95/month (of course it costs 15% less if you use a Hostican discount code like luckyyou-12 ). The price is a little bit high considering it’s just a shared hosting package, but to tell the truth Hostican’s service is great…at least that’s what I was thinking until I found out that their server didn’t like my attempt to run proxy sites on it. :D Yep, I know it was a stupid idea to host proxy sites on a shared hosting account, but I wanted to try it. And it didn’t work, because it used too much resources. So they suspended my hosting account, and I had to change a hosting plan, and that’s when I said: Alright, let’s try the VPS Rage package. That was a good choice, finally there were no problems with the hosting, but I wanted to separate my proxy sites from my other websites, so I decided to move them to another hosting company. And I moved my proxy sites to Tech Entrance, because they have proxy hosting plans for the lazy proxy owners. :) After I chose another home for some of my websites I changed back the hosting package from VPS Rage to Tera-Host. I really like Tera-Host package because it takes 15 seconds to install a Wordpress blog, and with cPanel it’s really easy to create new email accounts. The support at Hostican is great (it’s much better than at Dot5hosting…but that’s another story), they are really helpful and they respond right after you asked for help.

Why does Hostican’s service rock?

Yeah, I mean it, and this is why I wrote that in the title: As you may know, many of the web hosting companies have an affiliate program and they pay high commissions for their affiliates.

How can you trust in a stranger’s words about a web hosting company/plan? In 99.9% of the cases this website owner, this reviewer gets a nice commission after each sale.

Alright, why do I tell you things like this? This is partially a webhosting review blog… am I crazy or what? Well, honesty is one of the most important part of this business. If a company doesn’t deliver what it promises, I don’t want to be it’s business partner (in this case, I don’t want to be it’s affiliate). My ultimate goal is to write honest reviews about hosting services (no matter whether they suck, or they are good & reliable) because people have to know the truth about these companies. So stay tuned folks! :)

PS: I’m sure you’ve noticed that I’m not a native English speaker, sorry for the grammatical errors, I try to do my best to create quality content.
